A surprising are the countries in the developing world, where, Within a few years, the situation has changed radically. In 2002 only 4% of Africa's population owned a mobile phone, at the end of 2008 was 30%. Similar situation in Asia, where, within six years, it has gone from 12% to about 40 percentage points. In Europe, the number of mobile phones in 2007 had risen to 111 per cent of the population: in other words, there were (and are) more mobile phones than inhabitants.
